From restaurants, to bakeries, to luxury hotels, Lia has been working in the baking & pastry industry for over 20 years. Her love for cakes began early in childhood, while baking with her family. As early as middle school, Lia knew that she would become a pastry chef when she graduated.
In continuing with her passion for baking, Lia studied at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Throughout her college years she honed her talents as a pastry chef in restaurants, a custom cake bakery, and completed a semester-long pastry internship at the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach. In 2005 she graduated with honors from JWU, with the honorable title ‘summa cum laude’ for her degree in Baking & Pastry Arts, as well as her degree in Food Service Entrepreneurship. She also holds a minor in Leadership, and a secondary minor in World Languages. Upon graduating, Lia was offered a pastry position at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes, where she advanced to become a trainer within her department. In 2009, she was recruited to be part of the opening team for The Waldorf Astoria Orlando, where she later became the property’s Senior Pastry Sous Chef. Today, Couture Cakes continues to collaborate with the Bonnet Creek resort, as the property’s exclusive wedding cake decorator. In addition to the Waldorf Astoria & Signia resorts, Couture Cakes is also the preferred wedding cake partner for Isleworth Golf & Country Club, one of the world’s most prestigious communities, and wedding venues.
From private weddings, to celebrity work and other luxury events in the Orlando area, Couture Cakes aims to exceed clients’ expectations by expertly executing elaborate one-of-a-kind designs, that are both beautiful & delicious.
Lia’s cakes have been featured in a variety of media. Print features include The Knot Magazine, Central Florida Bride, Orlando Wedding magazine, and the Windermere Observer. Online published material includes features on Orange Blossom Bride, Borrowed & Blue, Maharani Weddings, Florida Bride Magazine, Reverie Gallery, and Southern Celebrations Magazine, to name a few. Couture Cakes also holds the prestigious honor of being a Couples’ Choice Award Winner on WeddingWire (2018-present), a global marketplace that connects engaged couples with wedding professionals.
Passion for detail, love for her work, and dedication has helped nurture Couture Cakes, where Lia’s exclusive cakes are booked on a limited first-come, first-served basis, and has solidified her standing in the industry as being a true cake artisan.
Today, Lia still personally works with each client “hand-in-hand” from start to finish, lending a highly personalized experience from design to delivery.
